Eddington Hotel information

Posted Thursday 27th June 2019

On Wednesday, June 26, there was an information evening about the Eddington Hotel.

Warren Copeland from Gilbert-Ash, the construction company building the hotel, gave a presentation which can be found here.

In this presentation he outlined:

  • The initial key dates of mobilisation, site investigations and site enabling from 8 July, 2019, start on site from 15 July, 2019, piling from 26 August, 2019, substructures and basement works from 16 September, 2019 and superstructures from 6 January, 2020.
  • All construction traffic, including staff and workers, will be directed via a haul road that is not open to the public. The only merging of construction traffic with public roads is from the north corner of Turing Way to Ryle Yard.
  • Ryle Yard will be cordoned off so there will be no interaction between construction traffic and pedestrians or residential buildings, though pedestrian access will still be retained to residential areas.
  • Working hours and deliveries will be 8am-6pm Monday-Friday and 8am-1pm Saturday. No works or deliveries will take place outside of those hours except in an emergency, with full advance notice of those emergencies.
  • Noise, vibration and dust will be closely monitored and all practical measures to reduce these issues will be used. These measures include sound barriers, use of water to reduce dust, not leaving engines running unnecessarily, washing of vehicles before they leave the site to reduce the spread of dirt. Any "spikes" in noise will be reviewed to see if they can be minimised or scheduled for a non-intrustive time.
  • If residents have any concerns or issues regarding the works, Gilbert-Ash will set up a dedicated hotline for residents to call. The number for this will be 077362 70890.

Jonas Lencer, from dRMM, the architects who designed the hotel, also gave a presentation. This can be found here.

In this presentation he outlined:

  • That the four-storey hotel will comprise of two parts: a Locke aparthotel with 180 rooms for longer-stay guests, and a Hyatt Centric hotel with 150 short-stay rooms.
  • The hotel will also consist of public amenities including a cafe and restaurant, small retail unit, co-working and meeting rooms, basement car parking, cycle hire and parking, terraces and a landscaped courtyard.
  • Hotel operational hours will be 24 hours for reception, 7am-11pm for the bar, restaurant, and cafe, and 7am-9pm for the rooftop terrace.
  • Hotel deliveries will be from 7am-9pm Monday-Saturday, with no deliveries on Sundays or public holidays. Taxi drop-off will be on Eddington Avenue only, not in Ryle Yard.
